The Technical Services Manager, reporting to the Lindemann Metal Recycling Director Americas, will provide leadership and management for Lindemann Americas Technical Service Operations.

This position is directly responsible for all technical product support, technical service support, project engineering, systems and applications support, quality assurance, quality control, reporting, metric development, material master management, continuous improvement and HSE.

This position will work closely with Sales, Operations, Finance, Global Technology and Global Quality Management to produce strategies, cross-functional teams, and efficient business processes.

This role will be directly involved in developing and maintaining technical competency of self and staff by monitoring emerging technologies and utilizing databases to solve real problems internally, at suppliers, and at client sites as appropriate.


Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for sites product support, quality management system, continuous improvement culture, and HSE
  • Responsible for local technical performance on all ETO projects & sales support
  • Directly supports the HSE initiatives and programs
  • Lead cross-functional projects to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions, uncover optimization opportunities and resolve key issues
  • Recruit, train, develop and supervise technical support staff
  • Ensure accuracy and thoroughness of data and deliverables generated by technical staff by implementing comprehensive policies and standard operating procedures
  • Oversee the technical service requests process: tracking requests submitted, prioritization, approval, etc.
  • Identify, develop and implement quality control and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements are adhered to
  • Collaborate with management to establish change management strategies and set quality benchmarks
  • Monitor manufacturing and production processes in unison with Operations Manager to ensure conformity of final product
  • Develop quality assurance plans by conducting risk analyses, identifying critical control points and preventive measures, establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, implementing corrective actions, and developing verification procedures
  • Responsible for establishing product specifications and quality attributes, measuring various aspects of production, documenting findings, determining operational and performance qualification, and writing and maintaining quality assurance procedures
  • Supervise quality control activities, including auditing various 3rd party personnel for qualifications, quality control inspection schedules and milestones, reviewing 3rd party inspection reports, and the collection and filing of Data Books
  • Support Sales Managers in dealing with clients for all engineering, quality and other technical matters
  • Support and participate in all internal audits
  • Use statistical process control methods to evaluate the performance of products where feasible
  • Ensure all NCRs and variance notifications are reported accurately and on-time, root cause investigations are conducted appropriately, and implementation of corrective actions are recorded
  • Set up standard work on best practices and update system on identified enhancements
  • Perform event investigations, HSE audits and hazard hunts to ensure root causes and key hazards are clearly identified and communicated, with effective controls implemented and actions managed
  • Develop and direct continuous improvement training initiatives, including candidate selections, program content development, and training class facilitation
  • Lead value stream transformation projects to understand current and future state value streams across sales, services, supply chain and capital execution to align management’s tactical and strategic goals


Key interaction partners for this role will be:

  • Internal: Sales, Service, Project Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Global Technology and Global Quality
  • Customers, Suppliers & Sub-contractors


Job requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering or Technical field (or equivalent experience) required
  • Minimum of  10 years experience in the following fields: product design, project engineering, customer service, field service, continuous improvement and quality required
  • Previous experience in strategic and operational planning and performance management
  • Knowledge of recycling equipment, products and processes
  • Understanding of customer industry development and trends, competitors and products/technologies
  • Experience with ERP operational support software/systems required, SAP preferred
  • Experience with CRM sales management software/databases required, Salesforce preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer literacy required
  • Experience in functions such as project management, product design, fabrication, quality assurance and customer service

  • Ability to understand engineering drawings required
  • Builds and manages internal relationships; demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Demonstrates strong drive, performance orientation and ability to work under pressure
  • Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to manage internal and external interfaces
  • Demonstrates capabilities to support management processes, including strategy process, talent development and performance management
  • Fluent in English. Utilization of other language skills desirable; especially German and Spanish
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to engage in international travel
